An unabashed Scott Brown will be front and center today for what he called a long-overdue changing of the guard on Beacon Hill.
After eight years of Democrats controlling all aspects of state government, the inauguration of Gov.-elect Charlie Baker is a “breath of fresh air” in the capitol, Brown said.
“You will have a transparent Corner Office and new energy and good ideas, which is not only good for Massachusetts, but for democracy. ... When you have one-party domination, it gets old,” Brown said yesterday on Boston Herald Radio’s “Morning Meeting” show. “Hopefully, there won’t be as many scandals, or any scandals.”
Charlie Baker has the chance to be the poster boy for bipartisan politics — showing the nation that Democrats and Republicans can actually get along.
If Baker can prove he can balance the bloated budget and rein in the taxpayer- funded spending spree courtesy of the Democrats, there might be more room for conservatives in the Legislature.
Today, when Baker hits the stage at his inauguration, it will be his first chance to unite both parties, but also to provide a clear road map for a smarter government that doesn’t waste tax dollars.
GOP insider Ron Kaufman said today’s inauguration speech won’t be looking in the rearview mirror, but instead looking ahead to a more prosperous state.
That’s what Massachusetts needs — a fiscal watchdog ready to lead.
